The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives you the right to request access to public records maintained by the City of Dearborn. The City will respond within 5 business days of receiving your request.
What records can I request?
Under Michigan's Freedom of Information Act (MCL 15.231 et seq.), you can request any public record maintained by the City of Dearborn, including emails, reports, contracts, meeting minutes, budgets, and more. Some records may be exempt from disclosure under specific statutory exemptions.
How long will it take?
The City of Dearborn will respond to your request within 5 business days of receipt. If additional time is needed, the City may extend the response period by up to 10 additional business days with written notice explaining the reason for the extension.
Will there be fees?
Fees may apply based on the cost of searching, reviewing, and copying records. Labor costs are capped at $49.18/hour. Paper copies are $0.10 per page. Electronic records delivered by email are typically free. You will receive a fee estimate before any charges are incurred.
